Trees and No Trees in Fairhaven

On Wednesday, May 16, 2001 at 5 am, the City of Bellingham quickly chain sawed down all the trees on Harris Avenue between 11th and 12th - the main pedestrian block in Fairhaven. The Merchants of Fairhaven supported the cutting. Apparently it is to allow better parking for cars that bring shoppers.

Tony's coffee shop looks like any other old building - sort of bare.

Here are four stumps. The city will remove this evidence of vandalism as soon as possible.

Still trees one block up next to the old Market Place building. Are they next?? The street is no wider here.
