As your former Bellingham City Council At-Large representative for 22 years, I’m writing to urge you to vote for Russ Whidbee, who now seeks the same seat on the council.

Collaboration, not confrontation, is the approach we need on the City Council, and we’ll see that with Russ Whidbee. I’ve known Russ for years as a neighbor in Birchwood, as a member of the Whatcom Volunteer Center Board where we served together, and as someone who helped initiate Bellingham’s recycling program – Russ as a Western student and I as a new council member back in the 80s.

Your vote for Russ Whidbee is a vote for a thoughtful listener, a collaborator and a person who follows through on his commitments. I believe deep community roots and relationships matter. Russ will use his extensive experience and community trust to engage all of Bellingham in building fair and equitable long term solutions, not short term fixes, to address the problems we face.
