About 70 people gathered in front of Bellingham City Hall on Wednesday, March 8, to rally for women’s rights under the shadow of the Trump administration.
“I’m pissed that it’s 2017, and we are still here trying to work on women’s rights,” Catherine Chambers told those assembled near the start of the event, around 11:30 a.m. Chambers spoke of inadequate family-care policies, substandard wages, and renewed attacks on Roe v. Wade.
“We have an administration that’s creating an assault on what we have left,” she said.
While the voices heard at this open-mic event were mostly women, a couple men stepped forward as well. And that was OK.
“If we have men in power, and men aren’t talking about the importance of these issues, then things haven’t changed,” Chambers said.
The rally, dubbed “Speak Truth To Power,” was organized by Whatcom County Democratic Women.
